This one will release in November. Cheers,

This is another of the short stories originally written during my high school years. (ahem) Note the fancy-schmancy logo in the cover's lower right corner. Admit it — that's pretty cool. This one will release in November. Cheers, Vivian

This is a YA or teenager's short story, part romance, part an apprentice jockey settling into her career, and very much a racing story. It features a pack of two-year-old Thoroughbreds battling for a futurity win as their apprentice jockeys wrestle with their goals and dreams. The first draft of this short story was written when I was a teenager. (Do NOT ask for dates. Not a good move, that.) My friend, Kay Springsteen, a most talented author and delightful person, recently challenged me to look back through my early writing. I seem to recall some words about a learning experience, but she also said there might be some gems hidden away in them thar files. Well, she was right. Thanks, Kay. Cheers, Vivian Have you ever seen a prettier cover? This is Love Birds of Regent’s Park, by the lovely and very talented Ruth J. Hartman, published today by esKape Press. Check it out. # Lucy Ashbrook finds a pleasant diversion when she visits the Regent’s Park Bird Sanctuary to sketch the different birds that live there. Birds aren’t the only pleasing thing she finds, though. A certain Sanctuary worker, Oliver Barrow, has stolen her heart. But Lucy’s father will have none of it. No daughter of his will marry a common laborer. Oliver Barrow loves everything about his work at the Sanctuary. The birds, the trees, the ponds… a certain young miss who mesmerizes him. Miss Ashbrook is beautiful and sweet and shares his love of birds. But Oliver has a secret that just might get in the way of anything more than friendship developing between them. And he can’t share that secret with her. Not yet. How can Lucy ever convince her father of Oliver’s worth? That love isn't just for the birds? # Ruth Hartman writes whimsical and clean romances, usually featuring a young woman who loves animals and a young man smitten with her charms. This one looks delightful. You can find Love Birds of Regent's Park starting September 10, 2013 at: Amazon Barnes & Noble Kobo Smashwords the esKape Press website Cheers, Vivian For a decade, between the late 1970s and the equally late 1980s, I was honored to publish several brief articles in the excellent equestrian magazine, The Chronicle of the Horse. Their superb editors also accepted, albeit with what reluctance they were too generous to admit, a number of my scribbled poems, more properly described as doggerel. This ebook is a compilation of those works. In addition to thirteen poems and three short articles — “The Importance of Engagement,” “Warm Up and Cool Down,” and “Showing a Horse on the Triangle” — this ebook also includes two samples of my fiction, one from a Regency romance and the other from a World War II mystery~adventure, both showcasing these magnificent animals we love. Hopefully you’ll enjoy this offering, and if you don’t, blame me, not the Chronicle. The cover's a rough draft and still open to tweaking, especially the typography. The ebook should soon be available for pre-order through Smashwords, Apple, B&N, and Kobo, with an expected release date of October 11, 2013. Cheers, Vivian |
